September 5 - International Charity Day 🌟

Every year on the 5th of September, the UN invites individuals globally to participate in International Charity Day by supporting charities in their community. This specific date was chosen as it is the anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa, someone who was very dedicated to helping others and charitable causes.

Idea: Challenge every employee to choose a charity of their choice to support on this day. Supporting a charity can come in many forms and there are many ways of doing it virtually. Such as making a monetary donation, spreading the word about the charity with others, virtual volunteering opportunities, fundraising for the charity, and many more!

September 6 - Labor Day ⛱

Labor Day for most means a day off and saying goodbye to summer. It has been celebrated in the U.S. and Canada since 1894 as a tribute to working individuals. Use this day to enjoy summer activities and the warm weather before fall arrives.

Idea: Ask your team to share photos in Slack on how they spent their Labor Day weekend.

September 16 - National Working Parents Day 👨👩👧👦

Employees who not only balance their work but also have a family and children to look after truly don’t get enough credit. Although one day a year isn’t quite enough to show working parents the proper amount of appreciation, it still is nice to celebrate the working parents on your team and give them a relaxing day off!

Idea: Give the working parents on your team a day off by creating a full-day agenda of activities for their kids. Organize the events by different age groups so there is something for everyone. Depending on your local restrictions create virtual and/or in-person options for kids. Here are some kid-friendly ideas:

  • Pizza class
  • Lego building hour
  • Yoga for kids
  • Dance class
  • AMA with the CEO - kids edition
  • Scavenger hunt
  • Virtual concert/talent show

September 21 - International Day of Peace ☮️

International Day of Peace has a new theme each year for this global observation. This year the theme is “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world”. As we all continue to recover from the pandemic, now more than ever we need to build resilience and create a healthier world together.

Idea: Take this day with your team to spread kindness and hope for a healthy future for all. Host a gathering for employees to come together to discuss current events and acts of peace or even plan a meditation class to bring calmness to everyone.

September 22 - First Day of Fall 🍂

It’s so hard to believe fall is just around the corner! The summer flew by, but now it’s time to get your team excited for fall. To get in the pumpkin spice spirit, plan some fall-inspired activities on this day (or even throughout the season) for your team.

Idea: Here are some fun, fall-inspired activities and events for your employees that can be done virtually or in-person:

  • Pumpkin decorating contest
  • Fall-inspired cooking & baking classes
  • Make apple cider
  • Fall-themed ugly sweater contest
  • Go for a Fall walk
  • Scavenger hunt for the whole family

With September’s focus on back to school, working parents may continue to keep their kids home for online school or take them to school. Keep that in mind when planning meetings and events to be mindful of their busy schedules with school back in session.

National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 - October 15 to recognize the contributions of Hispanic Americans to the history and culture of the U.S. This a great opportunity to host panels, internal discussions, and/or learning talks to educate employees on this topic. It’s not only about learning about the history, but also how Hispanic Heritage and culture is celebrated today.
