Month Themes: Pride Month

June is Pride Month, a vibrant period dedicated to celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. It's a time to recognize the influence LGBTQ+ individuals have had across the globe. Consider organizing Pride parades, hosting talks, engaging in community services, or setting up movie nights that feature LGBTQ+ themes and creators to foster inclusivity and awareness in your workplace. 

June 1 - Pride Month Begins 🏳️‍🌈

June marks the start of Pride Month, dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ rights, history, and culture. It's a time for promoting equality and acknowledging the ongoing struggles for acceptance and legal rights within the LGBTQ+ community.

Idea: Organize a series of kickoff events including a virtual flag-raising ceremony, followed by guest speakers from the LGBTQ+ community who can discuss the significance of Pride and its impact on society.

June 5 - World Environment Day 🌍

World Environment Day is a United Nations initiative that encourages worldwide awareness and action for environmental protection, focusing on urgent issues like global warming and wildlife conservation.

Idea: Conduct an eco-challenge where teams compete to reduce their carbon footprint, accompanied by a virtual workshop on sustainable practices at home and work. Here are more ideas for your workplace.

June 7 - National Doughnut Day 🍩

Celebrated annually on the first Friday of June, National Doughnut Day honors the sweet treat enjoyed by millions and its historical roots from World War I, where doughnuts were served to soldiers.

Idea: Set up a doughnut-tasting event with selections from local bakeries, or if remote, send vouchers to employees to pick up a free doughnut from a participating shop.

June 8 - National Best Friends Day 👫

This day celebrates the special bond of friendship and its essential role in promoting mental well-being and social connection.

Idea: Encourage employees to share their best friend stories and photos in a virtual meeting or on a dedicated social media thread, highlighting the importance of friendships in and out of the workplace.

June 9 - Children’s Day & Race Unity Day 👶🏽🤝

Children’s Day focuses on the rights and education of children, while Race Unity Day promotes racial harmony and understanding across diverse communities.

Idea: Organize a virtual art and story session for employees' children, themed around unity and friendship across cultures. Include a discussion segment for adults on promoting racial equality at home and in the community.

June 11 - Feast of Shavuot 📜

Shavuot is a significant Jewish holiday that celebrates the harvest season and the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai.

Idea: Host a virtual seminar on the history and customs of Shavuot, complete with a cooking demonstration of traditional foods like cheesecake and blintzes.

June 16 - Father's Day 👔

Father's Day is a celebration of fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society.

Idea: Set up a virtual "Fathers in Focus" panel where employees share lessons and memorable stories about their fathers or being a father, exploring the diverse experiences of fatherhood.

June 19 - Juneteenth 🎉

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and is a day for reflecting on the historical and contemporary significance of racial justice.

Idea: Arrange for a virtual lecture or panel discussion on the history of Juneteenth, complemented by a performance from African American musicians or poets.

June 20 - World Refugee Day 🌎

This day honors the resilience and strength of refugees, acknowledging the challenges they face and the contributions they make to their host communities.

Idea: Partner with a local refugee organization to share stories from refugees via a webinar, highlighting their experiences and the importance of supportive asylum policies.

June 21 - International Day of Yoga & National Indigenous Peoples Day 🧘🏽‍♀️🌿

These observances promote physical and mental well-being through yoga and recognize the rich cultures, traditions, and histories of Indigenous peoples.

Idea: Organize a combined event starting with a yoga session led by a renowned instructor followed by educational talks from Indigenous leaders about their customs and the environmental wisdom of Indigenous cultures.

June 21 - Take Your Dog to Work Day 🐶

A fun day encouraging the presence of pets in the workplace to promote a relaxed and productive environment.

Idea: Create a "puppy corner" in the office where employees can interact with dogs or hold a virtual "pet parade" where employees showcase their pets and share stories about them.

June 28 - International Pride Day 🏳️‍🌈

The culmination of Pride Month, this day is celebrated globally with parades, protests, and performances that assert LGBTQ+ rights and visibility.

Idea: Host a global virtual celebration with LGBTQ+ speakers, artists, and community leaders discussing progress in rights and what still needs to be addressed, culminating in a digital "Pride Parade" featuring employee submissions.
