Month Themes: Women’s History, Gender Equality

March 1 - Mardi Gras

Mardi gras is a day of the Carnival celebrations and is the day before Ash Wednesday when Christian Lent begins. This day is full of bright colours, beads, parades, and eating all kinds of foods before fasting for Lent begins.

‍

Idea: Encourage your employees to dress up with beads and masks to get in the spirit of Mardi Gras while at work. Then end the day off with a virtual happy hour party so the entire team can celebrate together, even if it’s virtually.

‍

March 4 - Employee Appreciation Day

On employee Appreciation Day, employers are given the opportunity to recognize the hard work and contributions their people bring to the company. It is important to note that employees should be shown appreciation all year round. However, on this day you can go above and beyond for your employees.

‍

Idea: With the majority of employees working remotely, choose to send out personalized appreciation cards to each employee. If you are also wanting to engage the entire organization, opt-in for a virtual celebration event where employee accomplishments are recognized and highlighted. Special recognition and awards can be given out to all.

‍

March 8 - International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate the social, economic, political, and cultural achievements of women around the globe. The beginning of this movement to celebrate and fight for women’s rights dates back to around 1908. Help encourage the fantastic women on your team by celebrating achievements, raising awareness against gender bias and taking action for equality! (https://www.internationalwomensday.com/)

‍

Idea: Various organizations are offering virtual events to bring women from around the world to celebrate this day together, including the International Women's Day Global Virtual Summit. You can also host an internal event for your team celebrating and highlighting the amazing women and celebrate their achievements.

‍

Idea: Create a campaign on your company’s social media featuring the strong female leaders on your team or even turn it into a blog post series. Interview them on topics like who is their biggest female role model, what inspires them, and how they are celebrating on International Women’s Day. Remember to use the hashtags #ChooseToChallenge and #IWD2021 when posting on socials!

March 14 - Pi Day

A day where math enthusiasts come together and celebrate Pi Day with pie. Another fun challenge for your employees on this day is seeing who can memorize the most digits of Pi.

‍

Idea: Most people also celebrate this day by eating pie. Encourage employees to support their local bakeries and order a pie to enjoy. To engage the entire team, host a virtual pie baking contest.

‍

March 17 - St. Patrick’s Day

Celebrate the luck of the Irish on this day! Spread luck and four-leaf clovers by encouraging employees to dress up in green. Any employees with an Irish background can also explain the history and culture behind this holiday and touch on Irish food and beverages to try out on this festive day.

‍

Idea: Send employees UberEats credits to be able to support their local Irish pubs or restaurants by ordering lunch on St. Patrick’s Day.

‍

March 20 - International Day of Happiness

On this day spread happiness around your virtual workplace like confetti! Inspire each employee to list something that brings them happiness to the team within a slack channel. During these challenging times, it’s important to focus on the good and find a reason to smile each and every day. So use this time to bring a smile to your entire team.

‍

March 20 - First Day of Spring

The first day of spring is a perfect reminder for a fresh start as the seasons change. It is the perfect opportunity for your employees to spend time outside and go for a spring walk to take a break from screen time.

‍

March 23 - National Puppy Day

As we all work from home our pets have become our new office pals. Get your employees to snap a picture of their pets at their desks having a “ruff” day at work. Who doesn’t love having a mini photoshoot with their dogs?

‍

March 23 - International Data Center Day

A day that brings awareness to the Data Center Industry and inspires the talented individuals of the next generation. On this day, the Data Center industry is provided with the opportunity to share what they are all about and secure steady support.

‍

March 25 - World Waffle Day

Get your employees to start off their day with some waffles for breakfast. Anything from homemade Belgian waffles to Eggo waffles in the toaster, encourage employees to share their waffle creations with the team through Slack. This is a great event to get kids involved in the kitchen too!

‍

March 31 - International Transgender Day of Visibility

This is an annual awareness day celebrated globally to protect and bring awareness to the transgender community and all the work that still needs to be done. This day also celebrates all the accomplishments of transgender people and their positive contributions to society. There are many online resources that you can use to educate team members or even reach out to your team’s LGBTQ ERG to plan an event together.

‍

‍

March has a strong focus on celebrating Women’s history and the powerful women of today. This movement is meant to bring awareness to eliminate the discrimination against women and grow towards gender equality. The theme of gender equality is also present this month as to this day a gender pay gap still exists. This is the perfect opportunity to partner with your Women ERGs to be able to plan events together and organize information sessions to educate the entire team. Honour the strong female role models on your team to set the path for future female employees to come. Looking for ways that you can help?
