Month Themes: Independence Month

The best way to celebrate this season is to get your employees to enjoy some time outside doing fun summer activities. If your company has returned to the office during this time, remember that some hybrid events may need to be planned to accommodate all team members. 

July is recognized for celebrating independence and freedom in various countries. It’s a great opportunity to organize events that highlight the importance of freedom and independence in both historical and contemporary contexts. For example, you could host panel discussions featuring historians and activists, organize cultural festivals that showcase traditions from around the world, or conduct essay or art contests on themes of liberty and justice. These events can engage employees, enhance cultural understanding, and emphasize the ongoing relevance of independence in today's society.

July 1 - Canada Day 🍁

Canada Day commemorates the joining of the Canadian provinces under one federation. It also serves as a time for reflection on Canada's treatment of Indigenous peoples, acknowledging the need for reconciliation and the importance of honoring Indigenous cultures and histories.

Idea: Consider hosting a tasting event that features popular Canadian dishes like poutine and maple syrup treats. 

July 4 - Independence Day (US) 🎆

Independence Day marks the United States' declaration of independence from British rule, typically celebrated with parades, fireworks, and barbecues.

Idea: Host an all-American cookout at the office where employees dress in red, blue, and white, or arrange a virtual or in-person gathering where employees can watch a fireworks display. To challenge employees, host American history trivia.

July 7 - World Chocolate Day 🍫

World Chocolate Day is a global celebration dedicated to one of the world's most beloved treats, chocolate.

Idea: Create a 'chocolate lovers' event featuring a chocolate-making workshop with a local chocolatier and a tasting session that includes exotic chocolates from around the world.

July 11 - World Population Day 🌍

World Population Day focuses on the urgency and importance of population issues, established by the United Nations.

Idea: Host a panel discussion featuring experts in demography, sustainability, and global health discussing the challenges and opportunities presented by current population trends.

July 18 - International Nelson Mandela Day 🕊

This day honors the legacy of Nelson Mandela and his values through community service and social justice.

Idea: Consider organizing a book club where employees can read about Nelson Mandela’s contributions and then discuss their effects on social justice. 

July 21 - National Junk Food Day 🍟

National Junk Food Day is a humorous holiday that celebrates everyone’s favorite indulgent snacks.

Idea: Arrange a fun day at the office with a pop-up junk food bar featuring gourmet popcorn, nachos, and candy, or hold a virtual junk food cooking contest where participants create the most outrageous snacks.

July 21 - National Ice Cream Day 🍦

National Ice Cream Day is an enjoyable day to indulge in ice cream, one of summer's most cherished treats.

Idea: Set up an ice cream sundae bar in the break room or have a fun ice cream making class to make employees happy.

July 25 - National Intern Day 👩‍💻

National Intern Day recognizes and celebrates the hard work and contributions of interns in our workplaces. 

Idea: Host an appreciation day for interns that includes a career development workshop, a Q&A session with senior leaders, and a social hour where interns can share their experiences and network. Consider handing out gift cards to show some extra appreciation. 

July 25 - World IVF Day 🤰

World IVF Day also known as World Embryologist Day acknowledges the significance of in vitro fertilization and its role in helping to conceive life.

Idea: Provide a seminar on the advances in reproductive technologies, featuring fertility experts, and share personal stories from individuals who have gone through the IVF process.

July 26 - National Disability Independence Day 🌟

National Disability Independence Day celebrates the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which marks a significant moment in civil rights for disabled individuals.

Idea: Organize an accessibility audit of your workplace and host workshops on creating inclusive environments, featuring speakers from disability advocacy organizations.

July 28 - Parents' Day 👪

Parents Day acknowledges the hard work of all parents in nurturing the next generation.

Idea: Facilitate a family fun day at a local park or an online event where employees and their families can participate in games and activities designed to strengthen bonds and foster community.

July 29 - Lasagna Day 🍝

Lasagna Day is a fun day to enjoy this beloved Italian dish.

Idea: Host a lasagna lunch at the office or a virtual cooking class where employees can learn to make lasagna.

July 30 - International Day of Friendship 👫

 International Day of Friendship is a day dedicated to celebrating friendships across the globe.

Idea: Organize a mix-and-mingle event in the office where employees can bond with each other. Consider hosting fun activities where employees can problem-solve and work through challenges together.
